There are few development efforts that have at their core a philosophy
to uplift the community. With Upstream’s leadership in designing
the Project and team, the Point Molate project is a collaboration
between the people of Richmond and the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians
Tribal government. These two communities hold core values of achieving
better lives for themselves and each other. With project financing
from a second California Indian Tribe that shares those experiences
and values, the project team has put into print its core philosophy
on how the Project will be designed and operated:
- The Point Molate project will leverage development investment
and returns to achieve multiple social, community, environmental,
and open space objectives, including extending the Bay Trail system,
preserving two-thirds of the Site as open space, restoring native
plant communities and habitat, and opening up access to diverse
users.
- A healthy project will contribute revenue, jobs, and educational
opportunities to a better future for Richmond. A stronger Richmond
will create a better environment for the Project.
- Leadership in environmental and social citizenship will strengthen
the Guidiville Pomos’ sense of pride and belonging. The
presence of a functioning tribal government will contribute to
the culture and historic rootedness of the communities of the
Bay Area.
- Design for exceptional performance as a green development will
contribute to the aspiration of Richmond and the region to be
a leader in the field of green technologies.
